Peter Scamurra is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on February 23, 1955 in Buffalo, New York, United States. Peter Vincent Scamurra (born February 23rd 1955) is a retired American defenseman of ice hockey who was a member of the Washington Capitals for parts of four seasons from 1975 to 1980. He was selected 19th overall in 1975 by the Capitals and was drafted 50th overall in 1975 in the Cleveland Crusaders of the World Hockey Association.

Teams Canada had the honour of representing Peterborough Petes. Peterborough Petes in the inaugural 1974 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and Scamurra was part of the team even though he was American. He scored one goal during the competition and Canada was awarded an Olympic bronze award.

He was invited to a tryout for Team USA in the 1976 Canada Cup but did not make the final team.

Scamurra was a player for the Petes also in 1974-75 and was the top defenseman in goals and scoring 52 points from 62 games.

In his senior year at high school, Scamurra played with the Niagara Falls Flyers in the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. The team was sought out by Bob Johnson, then the coach of the Wisconsin Badgers Ice Hockey Team that had just won in 1973 the NCAA National Championship. Scamurra played in 13 games for the University of Wisconsin in 1973-74 as a left-winger after which he was offered an extension from Roger Neilson, then head coach of the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey Association to play defense. He played in the final 35 matches for the Petes in 1973-74. They finished runners-up in the J. Ross Robertson Cup.

Scamurra played for a portion of four seasons with the Capitals between 1974 and 1980. However, he was frequently injured, requiring four knee surgeries over the course of his career. He was briefly a part of the SM-liiga, appearing in 16 matches for SaiPa between 1980 and 1981.

Scamurra was selected 19th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1975 NHL Draft, as the highest American taken in the draft. At the time he was the first player drafted in the NHL from the Buffalo area, and remained the highest selected from the region until Pat Kane was selected first overall in the 2007 NHL Draft.
