Peter G. Schultz is one of the most popular and richest Chemist who was born on June 23, 1956 in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Peter G. Schultz (born 23rd June 1956) is a famous American chemical scientist. He is the Chief Executive Officer and Professor of Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute, the former director and founder of GNF as well as the founding director of the California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) founded in 2012. As of August 14, 2014 Nature Biotechnology ranked Schultz as the top- ranked translational researcher in 2013.
One of his papers from 2013 PNAS about the creation of stronger, more durable antibodies has been pulled due to questionable information from the co-author Shiladitya Sen:
Two of his papers, released in 2004 in Science and one in the Journal of the American Chemical Society which were later withdrawn in 2009 in connection with research carried out within the Shultz lab of postdoc Zhiwen Zhang, who was working on the incorporation of non-native glycosylated amino acid molecules into proteins. If the experiment had succeeded the method would have been a key instrument for studying the function of the carbohydrate-protein attachment However, the research was not replicated as when his lab tried to locate the appropriate notebooks, they did not have them. During the research, Zhang received emails and calls that threatened to blackmail him and, at one time, the person responsible sent letters to various institutions and Science telling them that would commit suicide. The lab later identified the cause as a misinterpretation of the role of an enzyme that was used during the tests. The papers included:

Schultz earned his bachelor’s degree at Caltech in 1979. He then remained there to pursue his doctoral degree (in 1984) together with Peter Dervan. The thesis he wrote was about the creation and characterization of 1,1-diazenes, as well as the production of sequence-selective DNA binding and cleaving molecules. He spent the next one-year time period at Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Christopher Walsh before joining the Chemistry faculty of Berkeley, the University of California, Berkeley. He was appointed an Investigator in Chief of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 1985, and also an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 1994. In 1999, Schultz relocated into The Scripps Research Institute and was appointed director for the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF), that was initially established solely as a genomic research center of Novartis however it expanded during the time of Schultz’s leadership to include a substantial research effort in the field of drug discovery and nearly tripling the anticipated number of employees (currently more than 500 employees). In March of 2010 Schultz resigned from GNF and returned to the non-profit industry and established the California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) in March of 2012. He has taught over 300 graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. Many of them are faculty members of the top research universities.
Schultz is an active participant in the National Academy of Sciences, USA (1993) and in the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences (1998).
Schultz then applied molecular diversity—the strategy of creating a large community of different molecules, plus a method for fishing out and identifying the ones that do what you want—to a range of problems in chemistry, biology and materials science. Along with Richard Lerner, he was one of the critical players in the development of phage-display libraries, and surface-library chips. For high-throughput bioassays which require freely soluble test-compounds, he uses microrobotic fluid-manipulation systems, adapted for 1,536-microwell cell-culture plates, to separately treat very small cell colonies with large numbers (hundreds of thousands) of different compounds.
