Patrick Fischer (born September 6 1975) is an Swiss coach for ice hockey. He is also a former professional ice hockey player who was briefly a player with the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Arizona Coyotes. He played primarily in his home country, playing in the National League A. He is currently chief coach for the Swiss national team.
He began his coaching career coaching the young levels at HC Lugano and was named assistant coach for the club’s NLA team in the year 2010. He was briefly appointed temporary head coach the month of October following the demotion from Barry Smith. He was appointed Lugano head coach and dismissed in October of 2015, after accumulating just 16 points in the 15 first games of the 2015-16 campaign.
In December 2015, he was named head coach of the Swiss national team.
He re-joined EV Zug in 2003 and then in 2006-07 he decided to take on the NHL by joining with the Arizona Coyotes. He played in his first NHL game on the 5th of October in 2006, against the New York Islanders and played in a total of 27 matches with the Coyotes. After a brief stint with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) at the start of the 2007-08 hockey season, Fischer returned to Zug. Fischer was sacked on May 8th 2009, from professional hockey. He was selected to the EV Zug’s Wall of Fame and had his jersey number was retired from the team.

Fischer began his career with EV Zug of the Swiss National League A (NLA) in the 1992-93 season. He was transferred to the other NLA team HC Lugano in 1997 and took home the Swiss championship for this club during 1999. After two seasons with Lugano, Fischer moved on to HC Davos, where he was a player until the conclusion of the 2002-03 season. In his Davos period, he took home the Swiss title in the year 2002, as well as winning the Spengler Cup in 2000.
Fischer has won his 183 cap for his country’s Swiss national team. She also took part during the 2002 and 2006 Olympic Games as well as participating in several World Championships.
Serving as assistant coach to Sean Simpson, Fischer helped the Swiss national team win the silver medal at the 2013 World Championships, and also joined the coaching staff for the 2014 World Championships.
