Oleg Vasiliev is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on November 22, 1959 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Oleg Kimovich Vasil’ev (Russian: Oleg Kimovich Vasil’ev born the 22nd of November, 1959) is a Russian former pair skater who starred internationally for the Soviet Union. Along with his then-wife Elena Valova, he is the 1984 Olympic champion 1998 Olympic silver medalist with three consecutive World Champion (1983, 1985 1988). They had a coach through their time included Tamara Moskvina. After retirement from the sport, Vasiliev became a coach who led the duo that consisted of Tatiana Totmianina / Maxim Marinin to win the Olympic title in 2006. In their final season as amateurs Valova/Vasiliev won bronze at 1988’s Winter Olympics behind Gordeeva/Grinkov but they then beat the current Olympic champs in the 1998 World Championships. After securing the third World championship, the Valova/Vasiliev resigned in ISU competition. After spending a year in the ice theatre of Igor Bobrin and signing the U.S. contract – the first Soviets to do this and not lose their nationality. The two performed together in various events and shows through the year 1997.

Vasiliev initially had no interest in coaching but changed his mind. He coached one season for the Latvian federation and then about two years for the French federation near Paris. Since 1998, Vasiliev has coached in Chicago and Saint Petersburg. During his time in the United States, he worked at the Oakton Ice Arena in Park Ridge, Illinois. Around 2013, Vasiliev married his third wife, Natalia, who is from Moscow. As of August 2016, the couple lives in Moscow with their daughter Varvara (born c. 2014).

The team took gold in both European as well as the World Championships but 1986 saw the rise of the promising Moscow team Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov. Although Valova/Vasiliev received gold medals at the 1986 Europeans but they came in second behind their fellow Muscovites in both 1987 and 1986 Worlds.

Valova/Vasiliev’s breakthrough was during the 1982-83 season. They took Bronze at the Prize of Moscow News, gold at the 1982 Skate America, and then silver at the 1983 European Championships. They completed their season by winning the first World title. They were unable to compete in the 1983 championships due the injury to Vasiliev’s jaw.

Vasiliev moved to Chicago, Illinois in December 1997. He was married to Valova from 1984 to 1992. He later married a Saint Petersburg resident named Valentina (divorced in 2000), with whom he has a daughter, Katia. His first daughter was born c. 1994.
