Nina Kraft (born December 31 1968) is a German professional triathlete who hails from Braunschweig. Kraft was disqualified from Germany’s Triathlon Federation (DTU) for a period of one year following an positive test for drugs.
The 12th of February, 2006 she competed in her first post-ban race placing second at the fifteenth Triathlon De Santos in Brazil. On August 6, 2006, she took home the German championship in Half Iron Distance race at Kulmbach with an advantage of 12 minutes. In May 2007, she took home her first Ironman Brazil, and on November 3 that same year, she was crowned the Florida Ironman with a time of 9 hours 5 mins with 35 secs, beating the record of the course in 20 mins.
On February 1, 2009, Kraft won the Tallahassee Marathon with a new course record of 2:45, and she won the Ironman Louisville in 2009, 2011 and 2014, making her the oldest female Ironman gold medalist at the age of 45.
Kraft was prohibited from Germany’s Triathlon Federation (DTU) for a period of one year, following the positive results of a drug test. The ban was lifted on November 12 in 2005. The privately-owned World Triathlon Corporation banned Kraft from participating in all Ironman races around the world until October 16, 2006. Due to Kraft along with Katja Schumacher’s doping allegations The DTU came up with the Elitepass and only Elitepass holders could be eligible to win prizes and would be tested for drugs without notice.

Kraft was drafter from 1998 until after which she became full-time professional. Apart from being a professional triathlete Kraft has also been an artist. On her website, she says the fact that she “uses art to help her switch off and relax.”
Following her victory in Ironman Germany in July 2004 Kraft completed her Ironman Germany race in first place just a few months later, in October, at the Ironman World Championship as the obvious Ironman World Champion. But, just a month after having been declared as the champion, Kraft tested positive for Erythropoietin. It is also called EPO. She and her coach, Martin Malleirer, admitted to the decision to take the performance-enhancing drug. In the end, the athlete was stripped of his Ironman title and second-place winner Natascha Badmann won her 5th Ironman world title.
