In 1989, his TV and music production work started when he announced and scripted the first World Music Awards from Monte Carlo. This prestigious event honors both musicians and industry professionals. For the next 14 years he served as executive Musical Director to Pilot Film and Television,Pilot Film and Television Productions a London-based production company that creates and distributes multiple-award-winning independent television programs, including Lonely Planet, Globetrekker and Treks in a Wild World, for whom he produced over 100 episodes. The successful Globe Trekker CD series was born, with many CDs now available around the world. Farmer is a director, writer, and producer of television and film series. He was series producer for Globe Trekker’s 9th, and 10th series. Both won the Canadian Television Award For Excellence in Programming. He was also Series Producer for Planet Food’s 2nd series on The Food Network and BBC2. He was Edit Producer for series 1 and Producer for the shows from Southern China and Malaysia, which he also wrote. He directed 20 short films for The Sundance Channel between 1995 and 2000. These included “24 Frame News” (with Nick Hornby), “Anatomy of a Scene” and interviews with directors and screenwriters like Ken Russell, Kim Longinotto and Marc Forster. He was Series Producer on a variety of independent productions including “Paranormal Egypt”, for The History Channel, and “Adventure Golf,” for The Discovery Channel. He produced, directed, and wrote “Lighting Up Lives”, a short film about Sunderland AFC’s World Cup bid. Also, music videos for Gwyn Ashton, an Australian blues guitarist, were made. He was the edit producer for the 2014 ITN Production (Channel 4 UK), Virgin Killer (Channel 4 UK), Campus Killer) (A&E (TV Channel USA). He also co-wrote screenplays Messiah with Marion Comer, an Irish/American director, and The Inventor, with Jody Marriott Bar Lev, an American film producer/director.
Farmer’s theatrical work has included producing the music for the London stage show, Stormforce, ” which successfully blended Irish and African rhythms, and both writing and producing the play “The Devil’s Interval” about the composer, George Frideric Handel and rock guitarist, Jimi Hendrix. In 2014, the actor and impresario Richard Strange asked Neville to co-produce and direct a film of Strange’s multi-media theatrical tribute to William S Burroughs, “Language Is a Virus From Outer Space”.
