Alongside his film productions, Salmon is also a producer and producer of television shows which include the internationally acclaimed South Pacific Pictures teen drama series Being Eve. It was a finalist for the International Emmy Awards 2002 (Children and Young Persons), Gold World Medal winner (Teen Programmes) in the New York Festivals 2002, and won The 2002 TV Guide New Zealand Television Awards for the Best Drama Series as well as Best Contribution Soundtrack, and Outstanding Contribution to Design. Salmon also directed five episodes for the South Pacific Pictures drama series, Go Girls.
Salmon’s latest short film The Box set in New York City premiered at the New Zealand Film Festival in 2010.
Salmon is married to actress Morgana O’Reilly. In June 2015, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, and O’Reilly gave birth to their daughter on 25 August.
His next short filmis one of his science fiction films, Letters about the Weather which starred Sara Wiseman (winner of best performance in short films (NZ award for film in 2000 )). The film was produced using funds from the New Zealand Film Commission in 1999. It was shown in competition with Clermont Ferrand (where it was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Extra Mention ) in addition to Puchon Amazing in Korea. The film was also screened at Telluride Film Festival, Cannes Forum and San Tropez.

The first short film of Salmon’s 35mm format film Playing Possum was made in partnership and Creative New Zealand in 1998. The film was shown in contests held in Clermont Ferrand, Edinburgh Film Festival and Valladolid International Film Festival. It also played in the Telluride Film Festival, Rotterdam, New York Children’s Festival, Mill Valley, Hof, Brisbane and L’Etrange Festival (where it was awarded it the Grand Prix and audience awards) to name the few.
His short film Fog was made in 2007 with Maxim Films and the New Zealand Film Commission on location in Ngawi, New Zealand. It stars Chelsie Preston Crayford (winner of best performance in a short film (NZ film awards 2007)). ‘Fog’ premiered in Cannes Critics Week in 2007. It has since screened in Melbourne, New Zealand and Stockholm.
