Nasos Ktorides Biography

Nasos Ktorides is one of the most popular and richest Skydiver who was born on November 10, 1968 in Nicosia, Nicosia District, Cyprus. Karaolis was only 22 years old when he was executed on August 28, 1955. He was a Special Branch officer and a police officer who had infiltrated EOKA’s movement. Karaolis was on his way to join the guerrillas led by Grigoris Afxentiou at the Kyrenia Mountains. He was captured and sentenced for death on October 28. Karaolis was executed at the Central Prisons in May 1956 along with Andreas Dimitriou. They were the first heroes of the independence movement. Their remains are buried in the memorial cemetery within the prisons. It is visited every year by thousands of people during national holidays.

Active sportsman, Nasos believes that “a healthy body builds an active mind”. He has been participating in marathon events since 2008. The North Pole Marathon is the most northern marathon on Earth, and only a few hundred people have participated. In 2012, Nasos Ktorides was awarded the honor to carry the Marathon Flame to Antarctic Ice Marathon for the first time. He was the founder of Quantum Nicosia Marathon 2010. He is also a freefall parachuter and wingsuit pilot who was trained in Russia. He is a member of the U.S. Parachute Association as well as the British Parachute Association. He is a skilled pilot who enjoys flying his power paraglider in his spare time.

Four international personalities, the President of the Republic of Serbia, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafkos Clerides and the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos II of Athens, called upon UNICEF to use the good offices of Nasos Ktorides. On February 8, 2012, UNICEF declared Nasos Ktorides as National Goodwill Ambassador who, together with author Antonis Samarakis and principal of the Panthéon-Sorbonne University and rector of the Academy of Paris Eleni Glykatzi-Arveler, completes the trio of personalities of the wider Hellenic world who have enjoyed such recognition to date.

A handwritten manuscript written by Albert Camus, philhellene Nobel laureate, and philosopher, commemorating the 50th anniversary the execution of Michalis Karolis on May 10, 1956 was auctioned by Nasos Kotorides. The Foundation was also the main organizer of the Quantum Nicosia Marathon in 2010 and has made significant contribution to the arts, most importantly to secure and repatriate historically important documents and other works. It sponsors charity activities that benefit families, children with special needs, orphans, children’s shelters, and all other activities aimed at the protection and well-being of children. In 2009, his business scope and humanitarian sensibility was recognized by the Commonwealth of Dominica as the ideal credentials for the post as Honorary Consul of the country in Cyprus. The Prime Minister of Dominica awarded him the “Dominica Medal of Honor”, as well as the diplomatic passport of the country.
