Olav Zipser (born 12 March 1966 located in Simmern, West Germany) is a highly skilled multi-time world champion, trainer of several world champions, and a Sports Skydiver Emmy Award-winning and pioneering.

Zipser was awarded an Sports Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 1995 for his performance as well as aerial cinematography at ESPN’s inaugural X Games that summer.

Consisting of advanced human flight performance tests / a series of predetermined high speed aerobatic freefly manoeuvres around and with at first one then two Space Balls, in 1996 Zipser developed the Atmosphere Dolphin FreeFly Licence Program and awarded Atmosphere Dolphin FreeFly Licenses AD-A to AD-D. This provided the testing ground for the research and development of freeflying, and opened up the possibility for a number of high-speed human flight air games and competitions.

A total of 16 Space Games events were held between 1997 and 2004. The resulting recognition and following brought FreeFlying into the international public eye, and took the competition to the next level.

With the aim of studying and documenting, advancing the teaching, learning and pushing the limits of human flight capabilities, Zipser founded The First School of Modern SkyFlying in 1994. He developed the concept that he could use Space Balls as independent measuring devices to measure continuous speed (155 miles per hour) as well as orientation (straight downwards). These measurements are used to train and test the freeflyers, so that they be able to meet the requirements of an international standard.

Zipser began skydiving in the initial phase of the Accelerated Freefall advancement skydiving program in 1986. He immediately began to explore non- traditional ways of body-based flight. He trained and studied human aerodynamics for a period of four months in an air tunnel. After that, he came up with an entirely new concept of human body movement that he dubbed FreeFly. The first step was to train others, then he created an official FreeFly training and instruction program so that it could help others become FreeFly instructors and teachers.

Zipser was the pioneer of the FreeFly revolution in the early 1990s , when he began to experiment with non-traditional types of body flying. Since then, he’s been a part of the world-wide FreeFly sport and has helped to bring it up to the level of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale competitive level it is today. He is regarded by the title “The Father of FreeFly”.

In 1995 Zipser became the first civilian to skydive from the stratosphere when he jumped from an Ilyushin 76 at 41,667 feet over central Russia. He performed the skydive with Patrick de Gayardon for Sector No Limits Sports Watches. They set the record for exiting an aircraft from the highest altitude without oxygen and achieved FreeFly speeds of 750kmh.
