In 2001, after a national conference on leadership and representation was held by the University of Ghana, a group of queen mothers developed the national Council of Women Traditional Leaders (CWTL). Although queen mothers were the initial members of CWTL, membership eventually grew to include other women traditional leaders of Ghana, including women from Asafo warrior companies.
As an advocate for the increased recognition and political participation of queen mothers in Ghanaian society, Eyiaba was instrumental in establishing the national Council of Women Traditional Leaders (CWTL) in 2001. She served as an executive member for CWTL until 2016.
After completing her elementary schooling, Amoah worked as an untrained teacher in Accra for many years. In 1971, Amoah received her Teachers’ Certificate “A” from the Teachers Training College in Accra. She completed an Education Specialist course at Winneba’s Advanced Teacher Training College in 1977. Amoah graduated with her Diploma in Advanced Study of Education in 1980 from the University of Cape Coast. Amoah continued her education at UCC from 1994 to 1997. She also completed her Bachelor of Education degree in Educational Psychology.

Nana Amba Eyiaba I (also known as Eunice Amba amoah, was born February 18, 1950) is a Ghanaian queen-mother from the Effutu Municipal District, Central Region, Ghana. She was the former Director for Education in Central Region. Eyiaba was appointed in 2004 by President John Kufuor as a member of Ghana’s national Electoral Commission. She co-organized and supervised the 2004 and 2008 parliamentary and presidential election campaigns.
Queen mothers have existed in Ghana for hundreds years. However, their political power was reduced when European colonialists arrived. They insisted that only male chiefs be dealt with. When Ghana gained independence in 1957, queen mothers were expelled from the regional institutions and only male chiefs were granted recognition as regional leaders. The constitution of the Republic of Ghana officially recognized queen mothers as chiefs by 1992. However, neither the National House of Chiefs nor the Regional House allowed queen mothers to become regular members.
After completing her Bachelor of Education degree from UCC in 1997, Eyiaba worked as a school inspector for the Regional Education Directorate, later becoming the Acting Regional Chief Inspector of Schools for the Central Region of Ghana. She was eventually promoted to Director of Education for the Central Region, before retiring from the Ghana Education Service of the Ministry of Education at the age of 59.
