He was fourth in the 5000 m category at Beijing Olympics 2008.
Kipsiro’s 2010 season began with success at IAAF World Cross Country Championships 2010. He won the bronze medal for the men’s race, and led the Ugandan team up to fifth in the table. Kipsiro’s next test was on the track at African Championships in Athletics in July, where he won the silver medal in 10,000m behind Wilson Kiprop. This performance earned him the opportunity to represent Africa at IAAF Continental Cup 2010. He competed in the 3000 m and 5000 m. However, Bernard Lagat won both distances. He managed to win two silver medals for Africa. He was chosen to run the 5000m at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, New Delhi. However, he faced stiff opposition from three Kenyans. Kipsiro took the lead and held off Eliud Kipchoge to become the Commonwealth champion. Kipsiro won the Games 10,000 m again, defeating Daniel Salel to win the gold medal.
At the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships he just finished outside the medals with a fourth-place finish. He was runner-up at the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K in New York, then took two prominent scalps in Wilson Kipsang and Haile Gebrselassie to win at the Manchester 10K.
He finished in 35:04 minutes to take second place in a close race at the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He set a Ugandan record of 7:30.95 in the 3000m at the 2009 Super Grand Prix meeting Herculis.

At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics he made his international debut running in the heats for the 5000m. He was seventh in the 5000m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Kipsiro also placed in the top 30 in both the short and long races at the 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He made his debut on the track, winning the 5000m silver medal and 10,000m gold medal at 2006 African Championships of Athletics.
In 2008, he ran in the inaugural World 10K Bangalore race and was runner-up behind Zersenay Takdese. His national record time of 27:54 minutes was his best. In 2010, he attempted the race again, but was again defeated by Titus Mbishei.
He won his fourth consecutive title at the Ugandan Cross Country Championships in February 2011, comfortably seeing off challenges from national rivals Stephen Kiprotich and Geofrey Kusuro. However, Kiprotich finished ahead of him at the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, where he was eleventh, and the Ugandans took the bronze team medal. His 2011 season was abruptly brought to a halt as he was diagnosed with malaria and typhoid. He missed the 2011 World Championships in Athletics as a result, but returned to defend his 5000 m title at the 2011 All-Africa Games and won for a second time running. He returned to grass competitions in 2012 with a third-place finish at the Cross de Itálica.
