As part of the 1984 Summer Paralympics, Monique Kalkman won a gold medal and a bronze in the women’s singles table tennis competitions. As a wheelchair tennis player, she competed in the 1988 Summer Paralympics and won a gold medal for the women’s singles. However, the event was only a demonstration sport at 1988 Summer Paralympics. Monique Van den Bosch continued her quest for medals at the Summer Paralympics, winning gold medals in both the women’s singles (partnering with Chantal Vandierendonck) and the women’s doubles (partnering with Chantal Vandierendonck).
When she was only 14 years old, Monique Van den Bosch was diagnosed as having paraplegia and was later diagnosed with cancer. She began playing Table tennis as a child, and later became a professional wheelchair tennis player. She made her Paralympic debut at the 1984 Summer Paralympics, aged 20, and participated in the Table tennis events.
