Wishart published stories on both the Investigate magazine blogsite “The Briefing Room” and in the online newspaper TGIF Edition confirming the authenticity of the emails, which formed the basis for other news reports on the developing story worldwide.

Wishart continued to work in the field as an inquiry for TVNZ and was conducted under cover with the assistance by Frontline reporter Michael Wilson and producers Carol Hirschfeld and Mark Champion. The documentary was initially planned to air in December 1993 but was stopped from airing by TVNZ management following an intervention by the TVNZ Board of Directors. Wishart and his co-workers were able to release the details about the programme banned to other news outlets and made the blackout an issue that was made public.
