She completed her first original composition a few months later for the stage production Mom: Life is Wildly Incredible by Angela Brouskou. It premiered in November 2011. Monika and Angela Brouskou co-created Primal in January 2013. This multimedia-enhanced series featured live concerts at Athens’ Onassis Cultural Center. It was based on Monika’s two personal albums. A subsequent EP of the same name, which featured six new songs, was released in the form a sketchbook and a CD. Monika wrote the music score for Sophocles’s stage adaptation of “Antigone”.
Monika was a vocalist and guitarist in several local bands’ live gigs. She recorded her demo at home in 2006 and shared it with friends. It was also uploaded to MySpace. This made it a sensation and earned her an opening slot for Calexico. Archangel Music, a Greek independent label, discovered her and signed her in 2007. Monika’s debut album, Avatar. Avatar was released in May 2008. It was produced by Ottomo (realname Nikos Aggloupas), and features confessional lyrics. Martin Wenk, Calexico’s guest trumpet player. It was certified platinum in Greece after it sold more than 30,000 copies. The video for “Over The Hill”, her single, was nominated at the 2010 MAD Video Music Awards for Best Alternative Video.
