Moana Lynore Mckey, born 28 February 1974, is a New Zealand politician. She represented the New Zealand Labour Party at the New Zealand Parliament between 2003 and 2014. She is of Maori, Irish and Scottish descent.
Mackey wasn’t placed high enough on Labour’s list to return in Parliament after the 2014 election. He was therefore not allocated a seat due to a decline in Labour support. Jacinda Ardern, Labour’s list MP, won the Mount Albert by-election in February 2017. This allowed the party to elect a new MP from the list. Mackey was the second highest-ranking Labour candidate to not be elected to parliament in the 2014 election. Maryan Street, the person who was higher in the Labour ranks, said she would not accept the opportunity to return to Parliament. Mackey declined to re-enter Parliament.
Mackey was elected to Parliament through the Labour party list on 29 July 2003, after Graham Kelly had vacated his seat. Janet Mackey, her mother, was also a Labour MP from 2003 to 2005. The two of them formed the first mother- daughter duo in New Zealand’s parliamentary history. Janet Mackey, who had been a Labour MP until 2005, resigned from politics. Moana Mackey, a contestant, lost the East Coast seat, previously held by Janet Mackey, by 1219 votes to Anne Tolley, the National Party candidate. She returned to Parliament however as a List MP. Mackey lost the East Coast contest to National’s Anne Tolley in 2008 general election. Mackey was again elected as a Labour Party list MP to Parliament.

Mackey was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and was raised in Gisborne. He attended Mangapapa Primary School and Ilminster Intermediate. Mackey was a member of Young Labour, New Zealand Youth Orchestra, and Youth Parliament while in high school. She graduated from Victoria University of Wellington in 1993 with a degree of biochemistry and molecular biology.
