Ryosuke Irie is one of the most popular and richest Swimmer who was born on January 24, 1990 in Osaka, Japan. Ryosuke is known for having the most graceful, efficient and graceful backstroke technique. He used to practice backstroke with a water bottle on top of his head before he was able to keep his stroke smooth and steady. Irie is a meticulous backstroker who has worked hard to perfect his technique since he was young. This is why, despite being small in comparison to world-class backstrokers, Irie still achieves great results. Although he didn’t medal at Rio 2016, his training continues and he hopes to win the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medal in his country.
On May 10, 2009, he set a Japanese record of 1:52.86 for the 200-meter backstroke. This was in Canberra at a Japan-Australia swimming competition. FINA, the international governing body of swimming, rejected his time because he was not wearing an approved suit. The record was approved by Japan’s swimming Federation. However, there were other records in which Japanese swimmers used unapproved suits, which were later deemed unfair. Irie’s time would have cut a huge 1.08 seconds from the 200-meter record set by Ryan Lochte in Beijing Olympics. In a meeting on May 20, 2009, FINA did not approve the high-tech swimsuit made by Japanese sportswear manufacturer Descente. They were called for modifications to other 136 models. He swam 52.56 in the same meet. This was 0.02 seconds slower than the Olympic Games world record by Aaron Peirsol. Irie won the silver medal, Lochte won bronze, and Aaron Piersol won gold at the 200m backstroke at 2009 World Aquatics Championships. Irie’s 1:52.51 time was an Asian record and was the second fastest 200m backstroke time.
He attended the International Swim Meet 2007 in Chiba, Japan, his first international swimming competition. He beat the high school record for 100 m backstroke in 54.07 seconds. On August 22, he set another high school record for 200 m backstroke in 1:57.03.
