Leslie was traveling in a vehicle from Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Bali, to an open-air dancing party. Two pills were found in Leslie’s bag by police when they stopped the vehicle. The pills were later found to be drug ecstasy by forensic testing. The drug was not found in her urine tests at the time of her arrest. A later blood test revealed that it contained traces of amphetamines. According to Indonesian police officers, Leslie claimed that the pills were given her by “Mia”, a friend. Later, it was revealed that Mia was Nameera Azmaan who was also a Singaporean model and worked for Chic Management (the same agency Leslie worked for). Leslie denied the allegation and Azmaan denied any involvement. Leslie also denied the statements that police reports attributed her to her, such as that she was taking ecstasy for one year and couldn’t enjoy parties without it. According to police reports, she also declared her faith as Christianity after her arrest.
Upon her return to Australia, Leslie left her then modelling agency, Chic Management, to sign with Max Markson. Shortly thereafter she travelled to Cambodia to help raise money for the charity Krousar Thmey, meeting with King Norodom Sihamoni and spending time in local orphanages. Leslie arrived back in Australia shortly before Australian Fashion Week, and returned to the catwalk there for the first time in April 2006, modelling swimwear for designer Michael Azzollini.
After returning to Australia, Leslie travelled to Cambodia to help raise money for local orphanages. She returned to the catwalk in Australia in 2006, but struggled to find regular work as a model following the publicity from her arrest. In 2007, she launched a line of clothing for dogs, and the following year, began a career as an interior designer.
It was reported in October 2005 that Leslie’s lawyers had presented a report from a Sydney doctor that stated that Leslie was dependent on prescription medication. This would permit her to be tried under Indonesian law as a “user”. The maximum sentence for a user in Indonesia is three months imprisonment and the maximum penalty for possession is fifteen years. Leslie was tried at the Denpasar District Court and found guilty of using prohibited substances on 18 November. She was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay the court costs. However, she was released from Kerobokan Prison due to the three months that she had already been in custody. Due to her conviction, she was deported. Leslie flew from Bali to Singapore, where she spent time visiting friends before returning to Sydney.

Leslie’s arrest and her choice of clothing in custody resulted in considerable attention from the Australian media.
