Michael Shmerkin is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on February 5, 1970 in Odessa, Odessa Oblast, Ukraine. Michael Shmerkin, a former Israeli competitive figure skater, was born 5 February 1970. He is a Skate Canada International silver medalist (1994, 1995), 1993 Ondrej Nepela Memorial champion and 1995 Skate Israel Champion. He was a finalist in the final segment of two Winter Olympics (1994 and 1998), six World Championships and four European Championships. He is currently a coach and teacher of figure skating for children and young adults. He lives in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Shmerkin was 16th at the 1994 Winter Olympics. He became the first Israeli skater to compete in the Olympic Games. At the 1998 Winter Olympics, he placed 18th.
Shmerkin moved to Israel with his family in 1991. Shmerkin started representing Israel in international competitions.
