Castleford were demoted at the end of the season and many Super League clubs chased Shenton, including Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Hull FC and Hull FC.

Shenton made his Castleford Tigers debut in a defeat by Wigan Warriors on May 1, 2004. He was also part of the U18s Academy Grand Final side that defeated St. Helens.
