Maurice Aurilius Stovall, born February 21, 1985, is an American football wide receiver and tightend in the National Football League. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted him in the third round 2006 NFL Draft. He played college football for Notre Dame.

He was a deeply religious man and made the sign of a cross when he caught his first touchdown pass against the Detroit Lions in week 7. He is an accomplished and competent gunner for special teams. Jon Gruden, his former head coach, gave him the nickname “Gunner Stovall”. He had a great 2009 with 24 catches for 366 yards in seven starts. He was able to score a 38-yard touchdown in the Dolphins game.

Stovall was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 19, 2012. He was waived on December 4, 2012.

On June 5, 2012 Stovall returned to the Lions signing a one-year deal. On August 31, 2012, Stovall was officially cut by the Lions organization.

Charlie Weis, Notre Dame’s new coach in 2005, wanted Stovall to return to his freshman year form. The receiver was asked to lose 15 pounds during the offseason. Stovall was able to play a significant role in Weis’ pro style offense after reducing his weight to around 220. Stovall started every game and caught 11 touchdowns. Some of these required acrobatics. He almost broke Tom Gatewood’s single-season receiving yards record. Stovall did, however, set new single-game records for touchdowns (44) and receptions (14) against BYU. Stovall was expected to be drafted in the 2nd or 4th round after his breakout senior season.

Stovall was born in Philadelphia and attended Archbishop John Carroll High school. After graduating from high school, he participated in the 2002 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
