Cushing tore his ACL on October 8, 2012. USA Today considered the play legal as they were both within three yards from the line of scrimmage, where offensive linemen are allowed to low-block defensive players. The Houston Chronicle disagreed and stated that while the block itself was legal, the location of it was not. Cushing said, “It’s football.” It’s part and parcel of the game…It happened to me, I’ve been there, so I understand how it works.” The league fined Slauson $10,000 after he was found to have used an illegal peel back block.
