With no contract offers from the Sabres after the season’s conclusion, Generous attended fellow AHL team that of the Providence Bruins, training camp in a try-out session during the 2011-11 season. On the 1st of October, Generous was released from the Bruins but the team signed him to an agreement for one year with an ECHL affiliate known as that of the Reading Royals. After beginning the season in the Blueline with the Royals, Generous was signed to an official try-out contract for the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL on the 14th of December 2010.

In the 2017–18 season, Generous served as Salzburg’s shutdown defenseman with 6 points in 39 games. In the post-season, Generous helped Salzburg reach the final as Austrian Champions, before losing in game 7 to HC Bolzano. In the off-season Generous opted to return to Finland, securing a one-year contract with his fourth Liiga outfit, Ilves Tampere, on May 25, 2018.

On April 1st, 2009 Generous agreed to sign a 1-year entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres and was immediately assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate known as the Portland Pirates, to begin his professional career during the rest of the 2008-09 season.

Generous initially played in Junior A Hockey in the EJHL with the New England Jr Falcons before being selected 7th in the round and 208th overall at the time of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. Generous was then drafted to play collegiate hockey the ECAC with St. Lawrence University. In his senior year of 2009-2010, Generous had 8 goals with 17 points, and had a -5 rating in 35 games, earning him the title of the ECAC’s Most Outstanding Defenseman. Generous was able to finish the four years of his Saints time having scored 56 goals (18+38) in 13 games. He was a four-time player on the ECAC All-Academic Team.

After having attended an Sabres training camp during the 2009-10 season Generous was then assigned with the Pirates on the 22nd of September 2009. In his first pro season Generous continued to play for the Pirates for the duration of the year , and during 61 games, he recorded 11 assists and 2 goals.

After three seasons with Lukko, Generous opted to join newly promoted Sport on a one-year contract on April 17, 2014. During the season Generous was traded to HIFK on February 3, 2015. He left the team after the conclusion of the 2016–17 season and signed with EC Red Bull Salzburg of the Austrian EBEL on May 23, 2017.
