Mathieu Carol Garon (born on the 9th of January 1978) is a Canadian former professional goalie in ice hockey. He was most recently a part of Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Garon was also a part of the National Hockey League (NHL) with teams such as Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Columbus Blue Jackets and Tampa Bay Lightning.
At the end of summer 2004 Garon became a trader (along with a draft selection) with the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Radek Bonk and Cristobal Huet. In during the 2004-05 NHL lockout Garon was a player for the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, posting an impressive record of 32-14-4, 2.12 GAA, .927 save percentage, and eight shutouts. Garon was able to earn the position of starting for the Kings at the time NHL game began for the 2005-06 season. But, Garon had a difficult time in the first position and was moved to the backup position for the 2006-07 hockey season.
Garon was named to Canada’s roster for the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Quebec City and Halifax, although he did not receive any playing time behind Cam Ward and Pascal Leclaire as Canada won the silver medal.
On July 1, 2009, Garon again became an unrestricted free agent and signed a two-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets worth $1.2 million per season. In his first season with the Blue Jackets, he appeared in 35 games and posted a 12–9–6 record backing-up Steve Mason, the winner of the 2009 Calder Memorial Trophy.
He was selected as the 44th pick overall of Montreal Canadiens in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, and was also a part of the Stanley Cup winning Pittsburgh Penguins, serving as the second-in-command to Marc-Andre-Fleury.

As a youngster, Garon played in the 1991 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with a minor hockey club that was from Rimouski, Quebec.
After being selected in the second round by Canadiens during the second-round in the year 1996, Garon spent the first five seasons of his professional career mostly for his Canadiens’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates that comprised players from the Fredericton Canadiens, the Quebec Citadelles and the Hamilton Bulldogs. Garon was summoned up for short stints with the Canadiens before being offered the full-time position as a back-up for the team in the 2003-2004 season. Garon played in 19 games to Jose Theodore that season, with an 8-6-2 record, which included a 2.27 GAA, goals against (GAA) as well as a .921 saving percentage.
Following the 2006–07 season, Garon became an unrestricted free agent and on July 3, 2007, he signed a two-year, $2.2 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Garon split time with incumbent starter Dwayne Roloson and his strong play earned him 47 appearances through which he posted a 2.66 GAA, .913 save percentage and four shutouts. Despite his efforts, the Oilers failed to qualify for the playoffs. However, Garon earned praise for going a perfect 10–0 in shootouts that season, stopping a remarkable 30 of 32 shot attempts in the process.
