Massimo Bonini (born 13 October 1959) is a Sammarinese former soccer player and coach who played as an attacking midfielder for Italian teams Bellaria Igea Marina, Forli, Cesena, Juventus and Bologna. He took home numerous awards during his time at Juventus as his efficiency allowed him to create an impressive midfield team with French player Michel Platini. In international competition He also played for San Marino.

As that the San Marino Football Federation was not officially recognized in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) up until 1990 in 1990, those who were from San Marino were integrated into Italian players. This is why Bonini was able to be a part of Italy’s Italian Football Federation and actually was a member of an Italian under-21 team. Because he was always unwilling to surrender his nationality of San Marino, he had to wait until 1990 to be part of San Marino’s initial team, receiving 19 full caps from when. He played his first game in the first match of San Marino against Switzerland on 14 November 1990.

For its 50th anniversary in 2004, UEFA asked each of its 52 member associations to nominate one player as the single most outstanding player of the period 1954–2003, and Bonini was chosen as the Golden Player of San Marino by the San Marino Football Federation in November 2003.

After having left Juventus at the end of 1988 Bonini moved to Bologna where he made 112 appearances while scoring five goals. Bonini was retired in 1993.

Bonini started his career at Juvenes Dogana in 1973 but did not play in the league during his time with the club. After the departure of Juvenes Dogana in 1977, Bonini moved to Bellaria where he would play 33 times, scoring one goal. After having left Bellaria at the end of 1978, Bellaria shifted to join Forli and went on to play 23 games, scoring one goal. After departing Forli at the end of 1979, Forli joined Cesena and played at 60 occasions and scoring five goals.

After having left Cesena after 1981 Bonini worked with Juventus in the years 1981-88 where Bonini played in 296 games and scored six goals. He was awarded three Scudetti and one Italian Cup, 1 European Cup the Cup Winners’ Cup one European Super Cup and 1 Intercontinental Cup. He is the sole Sammarinese footballer who has won an official international trophy. In recognition of his achievements his performance, he received with the Bravo Award in 1983, as the top player under 23 in European Championships.

After his retirement, Bonini also briefly served as the head coach of the San Marino national football team, from 2 June 1996 to 10 September 1997.
