Moses Wetangula is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on September 13, 1956 in Bungoma, Kenya. Moses Masika Wetangula, a Kenyan politician, was born 13 September 1956. From 2008 to 2010, he served as Minister for Foreign Affairs, then from 2011 to 2012. He was also Minister for Trade between 2012 and 2013.
In the December 2002 parliamentary elections, Wetangula was elected as a member of the National Assembly. Wetangula was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Cabinet that President Mwai Kilibaki had appointed on January 8, 2008. This occurred during a crisis over the results of the parallel presidential election. Wetangula later in January summoned Adam Wood, the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, to complain about the United Kingdom’s criticism of the presidential election. He said that “our elections do not need a stamp of authority by the House of Commons.” After a power-sharing deal was reached between Raila Odinga and Kibaki, who both claimed victory in the presidential elections, Wetangula was able to retain his position in the Grand Coalition Cabinet, which was established on 13 April 2008.
George Saitoti served as acting foreign minister during Wetangula’s absence. He was absolved of the allegations and returned to the ministry in August 2011, though he permanently left the position a few months later to successfully contest for the position of Senator for Bungoma County.
In March 2012, Wetangula was stranded in Bamako, Mali during a coup d’état. He was evacuated after being trapped in his hotel room for several days.
From February 2003 to January 2013, Wetangula represented Sirisia Constituency at the National Assembly. In 2013, he was elected as Bungoma County’s Senator of Kenya. He then became the Minority Leader of the Senate.
