Martin Lohse was born in Copenhagen in Denmark, where he started his studies through the Musical Science Institute (1990-92) as well as studies in mathematics and rhetoric (1992-93) and geology (1994) at the University of Copenhagen. In 1995, he was admitted into the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Copenhagen, where he learned about music theory and composition as a student at the school of Hans Abrahamsen and Niels Rosing-Schow. In 2000, he completed the postgraduate composition course and in 2004 he received his debut at his first class at the Royal Academy of Music, which is where he earned an MA of music theory 2005.Currently He is an associate professor in the field of music theory and is director of the Department of Music Theory Department in the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
Received the three-year Grant of the Danish Arts Foundation in 2003 as well as the Hakon Borresen Prize in 2012.
