Martin Hayes is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on March 21, 1966 in County Clare, Ireland. Martin Hayes (born 21 March 1966) is a English football manager as well as a former player. As as a player, he played an appearance in 165 games during the Football League. He was most recently the manager of Waltham Abbey.
Hayes started to lose performance and, although he was in the squad for 17 games of the Arsenal’s 1988-1989 First Division campaign, 14 of them were substitutes when newcomer Brian Marwood became Arsenal’s regular on the left. But he did play sufficient games to earn an award for the title in addition to the League Cup winner’s medal from two years earlier. He was on the field as a substitute during one of their final games, when Michael Thomas famously scored the winning goal at Anfield.
With Alan Smith as centre forward and Paul Merson on the left wing dominating up front, Hayes couldn’t find any way into the Arsenal side in his favoured position, and after another season on the fringes, he left Arsenal on 29 September 1990 to join Celtic for £650,000. Hayes only played seven matches for Celtic, however, and never had a lengthy spell in the first team.
After a loan spell with Wimbledon, Hayes joined Swansea City in 1993, and spent two seasons at the Vetch Field. Hayes won the Football League Trophy with them in 1994, but the following year he was released on a free transfer. At the age of 29, a professional career which had once looked so promising was over.
With the old Rix getting tired, Hayes soon established himself as Arsenal’s main left winger. In 1986-87, he was the club’s highest scorer with 24 goals, with 12 of which were penalties. He also was part of the Gunners winning team in the League Cup in 1986, which beat Liverpool by a score of 2-1. However, he couldn’t maintain his form in next season, and scored just three goals which included the goal that opened the League Cup final against Luton Town. But, Hayes also hit the post from a few yards away at a time when Arsenal were ahead 2-1 and Luton came back to make it at 3-2. It was the arrival to replace Brian Marwood in March threw his first Arsenal chances into question.

He played in the remaining 13 games in the following seasons as Graham Rix’s assistant, with three points. In the last few weeks of the season Don Howe, the manager who had granted Hayes his first start was sacked as manager after reports suggested that Arsenal offered his position for Terry Venables, but when the new manager was announced few weeks later , it became George Graham who took over. It was a good thing for Hayes who was his manager, he continued to be as a part of the plans for the new manager.
