Jankowski was chosen during the 2011 OHL draft, being selected by the 11th selection in the 7th selection by the Saginaw Spirit though he declined to join the team. According to the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Central Scouting Bureau placed Jankowski at 43rd top potential player in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft when it released its last rankings, which is which is an improvement over his 74th position in earlier reports. Other analysts gave him a higher rating as well, such as Craig Button of The Sports Network which ranked him at 41st. It was the Calgary Flames selected him in the first round, in 21st overall. He was the most prestigious draft selection from the Canadian secondary school. The Flames were criticized for taking a decision “off the board” and choosing Jankowski far above the expected draft position, however the assistant manager of John Weisbrod claimed that, while Jankowski’s talent was “raw”, other teams would have a chance to select Jankowski in the first round, even if the Flames didn’t. Jankowski initially made a commitment to his team, the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 2012-13, before moving to Providence. Mark Jankowski (born September 13 1994) is an Canadian professional hockey center of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL). Jankowski was chosen as the 21st pick in the initial round of selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, by the Flames. He is the highest-selected Canadian high school athlete in NHL history. He been a player at Stanstead College for two seasons before the selection.
Jankowski had the distinction of being a leading scoring player at the midget AAA level in the league of his team, the St. Catharines Minor Midget AAA Falcons of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s South-Central Triple A Hockey League. He was not selected for the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) midget draft because teams were worried that at five feet eight inches in height, he would be small to compete at the highest levels that junior hockey is played. He chose to play for Stanstead College which is a prep school within Stanstead, Quebec. He played for two seasons with Stanstead and scored 31 goals and 73 points during the high school team’s 2010-11 season, and scoring 53 points and 93 goals across the 2011-12 season, playing in 57 games. In his second season in Stanstead, Jankowski committed to take on collegiate hockey with The Providence Friars. Boston University, Cornell, Harvard, Maine, and Penn State were also interested in his services. However, Jankowski decided to go with Friars Coach Nate Leaman, who had previously expressed an interest in Jankowski as a coach at Union College, to Providence.
Jankowski began his professional career on March 30, 2016, signing a two-year entry level contract with the Flames. The deal began during the 2016–17 NHL season; for the remainder of 2015–16, Jankowski played with the Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Stockton Heat. These games did not count towards his contract, which will expire following the completion of the 2017–18 NHL season. Jankowski was called up by the Flames in November 2016, making his NHL debut against the New York Islanders on November 28, 2016. On November 9, 2017, Jankowski scored his first career NHL goal against the Detroit Red Wings in a 6-3 win. On April 7, 2018, the last game of the Flames regular season, Jankowski recorded his first four goal game in a 7–1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
