He started his career with Australia U-21. However, due to his both citizenship, Australian and Italian, was referred to by coach Bertrand Fourcade from Italy in 1992, but still playing for his country of birth. He played his first game on the 1st of October, 1992 in the 22-3 victory against Romania in Rome to play in the FIRA Championship D1 Pool B. He was a 48-cap player for Italy between 1992 and 2003. He was selected to the 1995 Rugby World Cup, playing two games. He started his career with New South Wales Waratahs, from 1988/89 until 1996/97. He transferred into Benetton Treviso in 1995/96, playing for two seasons and winning National Champion in 1996/97. He would then play 2 seasons with West Hartpool, in England from 1997/98 until 1998/99. He would also play one time playing at CA Brive, in 1999/2000. Returning to England He was a player in the clubs of Sale Sharks (2000/01-2001/02), Rotherham Titans (2002/03) and Coventry R.F.C. (2003/04-2004/05) In addition, was also playing Rugby League with the Coventry Bears and was where he ended his career as a player.

In 2014, Giacheri became the head coach of American side San Francisco Golden Gate RFC, a team that pronominally competes in the Pacific Rugby Premiership.
