Mark Aston (born 27 September 1967) is the head coach of Sheffield Eagles in the Betfred Championship. Mark Aston has been an English rugby league coach and a former scrum-half in the rugby league who played the bulk of his playing time with Sheffield Eagles. There were also brief stints at Featherstone Rovers and Bramley, and was awarded one award with Great Britain in 1991. He was awarded the Lance Todd Trophy in 1998. won the Lance Todd Trophy after helping Sheffield beat Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium by winning 17-8 over Wigan Warriors.
The Man-of-the-Match award at 1998’s Rugby League Challenge Cup Final was the most memorable moment of the Aston’s playing career. He was in control of the game and guided his team to implement the game plan that was devised by Eagles head coach John Kear.
Following the club’s merger with Huddersfield Giants in 1999, he co-founded a new Sheffield Eagles club, and was named player-coach. He retired from playing in 2004, and briefly stepped down as head coach in 2005 before resuming coaching duties in 2007. In addition to coaching, he was held various positions in the Eagles boardroom, including CEO and Director of Rugby. From 2011 to 2017, he was also the head coach of the Ireland national team. In 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Sheffield Hallam University for his services to sport in Sheffield, and received the Rugby League Writers’ Association Merit Award for services to rugby league.

He began in rugby union around age eight in his hometown of Castleford. He took part in a couple of games, but then decided to switch to league rugby. He was then transferred the Stanley Rangers, in Wakefield After several years at 15 years old, he joined Oulton Raiders which was where his father Brian Aston had played as an amateur. Then, he relocated into Lock Lane for one season and then began playing in the Under-17 league for Castleford. Despite being offered a professional contract by the local club in which he grew up and a decision to take up the offer of Sheffield Eagles. At the time, he’d been playing open-age football for Selby Gaffers and was coached by Brian his father. Brian and had completed his debut Eagles appearance as an unnamed trialist Easter Day 1985.
Also, he played for Great Britain against France in 1991 and was chosen for during the Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand.
