Lamoureux is from an hockey family His father Pierre was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, was a goalie in the University of North Dakota in the late 1970s and the early 1980s. Mario’s two sisters Monique as well as Jocelyne were part of winning the Silver medal of the US women’s hockey team during the 2010 Olympic Games, the 2014 Olympic games, and also took home Gold in the 2018 Olympic games. Mario’s siblings Jacques and Jean- Philippe play professionally. After graduating in 2012, the young man made his debut as a professional with the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) with the Gwinnett Gladiators. In his debut full ECHL year (2012-13) as a member of the Ontario Reign, Lamoureux was selected to the All-Rookie team with the team, having scored 20 goals, and 40 assists over seventy-one games. The team re-signed him to the Reign for the 2013-14 ECHL season. He also spent time playing for the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League (AHL) in the same season. He joined the team in January 2014 and departed on a brief stint as a player with EC VSV of the Austrian top division EBEL which was signed by Lamoureux just prior to the beginning of EBEL playoffs.

He was a part of his team the Tri-City Storm of the USHL until 2008 , and was the team’s all-time top scorer (129 points from 236 games). Lamoureux was enrolled at University of North Dakota in 2008. University of North Dakota in the year 2008. Through his four years at the university and during his time at UND, he assisted UND to win three WCHA Championships and served as captain of the team in their senior season. Alongside teammates Evan Trupp, he received the Cliff “Fido” Purpur Award for “hard work, determination and being a creator of excitement on the ice” during the second year of his senior. The team captain was appointed in his senior year of 2011-2012 season.

Lamoureux signed with Esbjerg Energy of the Danish Metal Ligaen for the 2015-16 season. He was a key member of Esbjerg’s championship-winning campaign, recording 26 goals and 35 assists in 45 games of the regular season as well as two goals and eleven assists in 18 post-season contests. After his year in Denmark, Lamoureux took up an offer from Austria, penning a deal with EBEL outfit HC Innsbruck in May 2016.
