Marina Sanaya is one of the most popular and richest Figure Skater who was born on January 7, 1959 in Moscow, Russia. In Moscow, Marina Sanaya was the daughter of Walter Sanaya, who served as a goalkeeper in football for FC Dynamo Moscow and FC Dinamo Tbilisi in the 1950s. She began skating at six years old at CSKA Moscow.

Sanaya was recognized by the New York Ice Theater’s annual charity gala in 2008. Her death occurred in October, 2016. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Englewood, Colorado.

After her retirement from competitive skating, Sanaya was appointed an official of the skating team and was employed as an official judges, technical control and referee. She was also the judge for Russia in the pairs competition during the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Marina Valterovna Sanaya (Melnyk) (Russian Marina Val’terovna Sanaia (Mel’nik) 7 January 1959 – 6 Oct. 2016) was an official of figure skating and athlete who represented her country, the Soviet Union. At the age of 13, she finished 18th in the 1972 Winter Olympics.

At the age of 13, Sanaya was a member of her country in the Soviet Union at the 1972 European Championships in Gothenburg, which she won 23rd place, and also at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, in which she was ranked 18th. In the following year she placed 11th at the 1973 European Championships in Cologne and 16th at the 1973 World Championships in Bratislava. Her coaches were Nina Zhuk, Sergei Chetverukhin along with Aleksandr Gorelik.
