Marie Rossi is one of the most popular and richest Aviator who was born on January 3, 1959 in Oradell, New Jersey, United States. Rossi was born in Oradell, New Jersey on the 3rd January 1959. She was the fourth of four children born to Paul Rossi and Gertrude Rossi. The father of the family was a bookbindery treasurer, while her mother worked as secretary for an Wall Street firm. In 1976 Rossi graduated at River Dell Regional High School and began her studies at Dickinson College, where she was also a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps. Rossi graduated in 1980 with an Associate in Science with a major in Psychology.

She was killed after his helicopter collided with a unlit tower within Northern Saudi Arabia on March 1st, 1991, the day after the ceasefire accord. She was laid to rest on the 11th of March in 1991, with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, Section 8 Grave 9872 (38deg52’18”N 77deg03’57”W 38.87170degN 77.06594degW (or 38.87170; -77.06594 ).

Rossi worked as a CH47 Chinook pilot in Rossi was a pilot in the CH-47 Chinook with the 18th Aviation Brigade, commanding B Company, 2nd Battalion, 159th Aviation Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, stationed at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, Georgia. The company was deployed in Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield in 1990. Rossi has been interviewed on CNN in the days leading up to the attack on the ground carried out by Coalition forces. Rossi said that,

Marie Therese Rossi-Cayton (January 3 1959 – March 1 1991) was the first woman in American military history to be in combat as a commander of an aviation unit in the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and also the first female pilots in United States history to fly combat missions. She died by her CH-47 Chinook the aircraft she was flying was destroyed within Saudi Arabia, on March 1st, 1991.

Rossi led a flight of her company’s CH-47 Chinook helicopters 50 miles (80 km) into Iraq on February 24, 1991, ferrying fuel and ammunition during the very first hours of the ground assault by the Coalition Forces. Her company would be involved in supply missions throughout the war.
