Marcos Ayerza, born January 12, 1983 in Buenos Aires, is an ex- Argentine rugby union rugby player. He played loose-head prop with the Leicester Tigers as well as his national team. His passion for the game and aggressiveness earned him the nickname “El Toro”, which means “The Bull”.
He was a part of the 2007 Premiership final win against Gloucester, and the back-toback Premiership titles 2009 and 2010. He lost the 2009 final against London Irish and the 2010 against Saracens. He lost the Heineken Cup finals 2007 and 2009, and then lost the Premiership finals 2011 and 2012.
In December 2014 Ayerza made his 200th appearance for Leicester against Northampton and in January 2015 it was announced Tigers would play Argentina as part of a testimonial year in Ayerza’s honour.
In September 2016 he made his 200th start against Wasps becoming only the 86th player in the club’s history to make 200 starts.
After playing rugby for Colegio Cardenal Newman, and later for Club Newman in Buenos Aires, he joined Leicester in 2006. After Alex Moreno, who was hurt in the warm up against Bath Rugby, his Tigers debut came as an unfortunate late call-up.
