Manne Dipico Biography

Manne Dipico is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 21, 1959 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa. Manne Emsley Dipico was the first Premier of South Africa’s Northern Cape Province. He was born in Kimberley 21 April 1959. In 2006, he was elected Chairman of the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa. He is the Chairman of Ponahalo Holdings, a De Beers Group company, and the Deputy Chairman at De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. He was the first president of the SA-China People’s Friendship Association.

Dipico was a member of National Union of Mineworkers. He served as Regional Organiser from 1985 to 2007 and Education Coordinator in 1990.

With the creation of the Northern Cape Province in 1994, Manne Dipico, as Chairman of the ANC, became its first Premier, serving in this capacity until

2004. He traveled to Canada in 1994 to gain insight into the role of premiers there.

In 2001 ANC delegates unanimously voted in Manne Dipico as the ANC Provincial Chairperson for the fourth time in succession.

Dipico was taken into custody in Ciskei during the State of Emergency in 1984. Kimberley was also detained in 1986. In 1987, he was again detained. He was charged with subversion, terrorism and supporting the goals of a banned organisation. From 1987 to 1990, he was sentenced and kept in prison.

Dipico graduated from St Boniface High School, Kimberley in 1979 and went on to study for his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Fort Hare. Dipico obtained the Wharton School of Business Leadership Diploma in 1996.

Dipico was an executive member, in Fort Hare, of the Azanian Students Organisation. He joined the underground structures of African National Congress (ANC), Eastern Cape, in 1982. He was a Regional Executive Member of the United Democratic Front from 1985 to 1986, and a member of the Galeshewe Youth Organisation in 1982-4.

He became Regional Secretary of the African National Congress in the Northern Cape in 1991, following the un-banning of the organization in South Africa, becoming its Provincial Chairman in 1992. He was on the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party in 1995-8.
