Maha Ali was born on 23 September 1973 in Amman. Her father, a well-known Jordanian physician and retired general in Jordanian Armed Forces, is her maternal grandfather. She speaks trilingual Arabic, English, and French.

Forbes ranked Ali 8th most powerful Arab woman in government in 2015. Ali has received several royal medals from Jordan’s King Abdullah II, for her excellence in civil service, including the Order of Independence of the Third Class.

In 2016, she received the Governor General’s Medallion by the Governor General of Canada David Johnston, for efforts exerted in strengthening trade between Jordan and Canada.

During her time as Secretary-General she managed negotiations for Jordan’s accession into the WTO. She also headed the Jordanian delegation regarding the country’s adherence the OECD. Ali hosted the Deauville Partnership meeting’s investments and trade pillar in 2012, and played a crucial role at joint committee meetings with Jordanian trade partners. Her work also included the creation of historic free trade agreements between Jordan and the USA, Canada, Singapore, Canada, and Turkey.

Maha Ali (Arabic pronunciation: mhly; born 17 May 1973 in Jordan) is an industrial engineer and politician from Jordan. She was the former Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply in the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan. She assumed the role on 2 March 2015, following a cabinet reshuffle under Abdullah Ensour’s government.

Ali started her political career in 1998. She was a World Trade Organization researcher from August 1998 to February 2001. Ali was then appointed Head of Trade in Services Section at the Foreign Trade Policy Department, until April 2002. She was also a deputy economic counselor at the permanent mission of Jordan to the United Nations from April 2002 to April 2003. She assumed the position of director of Foreign Trade Policy Department in October 2003. This was until she became Secretary General (deputy Minister) of the ministry.

On 2 March 2015, a cabinet reshuffle in the Second Cabinet of Abdullah Ensour saw Ali designated as Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply.
