Brown is also a regular MC at Outside The Box Mondays, and he tours the UK to develop his own material. He was able to tackle New York City’s comedy clubs in March 2007. After landing three spots, he moved on to Village Lantern in Greenwich Village before moving on to Broadway Comedy Club’s three rooms. He was supposed to perform five minutes in the smallest room, but the MC encouraged him to keep going. He played for over 15 minutes, and was invited back to the next room the following day. The Broadway Comedy Club’s middle room holds approximately 80 people. Brown performed for 25 minutes, and received a standing ovation.

2009’s Edinburgh festival saw Maff perform over three shows. Simon Donald and Maff Brown, a shared hour with Simon Donald co-founder of VIZ magazine. Half an hour alongside Simon Jenkins in the show Simon Jenkins Plus One. And as Philberto’s show off brother Umberto in comedian Milo McCabe’s show Philberto’s Animal .

2010 saw Maff do his debut solo show Looking After Lesal in the Pleasance

Brown has performed many gigs at London’s Comedy Store. His most well-known gigs were his charity fundraising gigs for Macmillan Cancer Support. They have been held every September since Brown’s return from Edinburgh. The 2007 gig was a success with Brown hosting, Dara O Briain and Russell Howard on the bill and Al Murray as the headliner. 2008 was a huge success with The Independent describing the event as “A triumph!” “.

He completed the AmusedMoose stand-up comedy course, which Logan Murray taught in May 2005. He began performing in November 2005. Brown began plans to start the now famous weekly Outside the Box Comedy Club at the Fighting Cocks Pub in Kingston the day after he had completed the course. The club was established three months later and it won the prestigious Best Comedy Club Award by Chortle. It’s now a cult favorite among major comedians. Many comedians use the club to practice new material, and more importantly, to test their material before Edinburgh festival. Up to date, guests include: Jimmy Carr (Frank Skinner), Stephen Merchant, Bill Bailey and Lee Mack.

August 2007 was a great month for Brown, who played the white part in The Honky and the Wog at the Edinburgh Festival. Nathan Caton, Paramount Comedy Channel’s black counterpart, shared the bill. Both performed for half an hour, and both received positive reviews.

2008’s Festival was spent in the Pleasance Cellar as part of the award-winning stand up show AAA. Paddy Lennox, Tom Craine and Maff shared the night and each showcased half an hour of their best material. It was a sell-out for the whole of the August run which, for the first time in the show’s history, sold out every night.
