Marie Knutsen (born 31 August 1982) is an Norwegian former soccer midfielder that played with Roa in Norway’s Toppserien league. She also played for Norway’s Norwegian national team.

Knutsen studied psychology and got married in summer 2008. In January of 2010, she declared the birth of her baby. She decided to not be playing football in the year the 2010 season. She and spouse Patrick Johansen then moved to New York City, USA where they resided alongside their young son Jasper. Knutsen played for the amateur team of Rovers as part of the New York Metropolitan Women’s Soccer League. She was the younger sibling, Guro Knutsen continued to play for Roa IL. Both sisters are part of the Christian sports group Kristen Idrettskontakt (KRIK).

After missing 2010 and 2011 through giving birth and moving away to America, Knutsen returned to Røa in 2012. She retired from football ahead of the club’s 2013 Toppserien campaign.

Berntsen’s successor Eli Landsem reintegrated the Røa players and Knutsen won her 55th and final cap in a 1–0 win over Slovakia in October 2009.

Apart from Roa the IL Knutsen was also part of Kattem IL, Flatas, Byasen and Trondheims-Orn. She was named one of the NISO Women’s Team of the Year in 2007.

Knutsen was first introduced with her country’s senior team the 19th of February 2005, in a game against France. Her first goal was scored on January 20, 2006, during a game against China.

While the press statement never mentioned coach Bjarne Berntsen’s name, it was assumed that he was instrumental in their decision to retire from the team. The retirement, construed in many newspapers as a boycott, created widespread media attention.
