Lucinda Jane Prior Palmer was born in Andover (Hampshire), November 7, 1953 England to Major General George Erroll Prior-Palmer (died 1977), and Lady Doreen Winifred Hope. She is a daughter to the second Marquess, Linlithgow who served as Viceroy, India, from 1936 to 1943. Prior Spunner Prior–Palmer of Dublin was her other grandfather. She was the sister of Simon Erroll Prior- Palmer, a brother (born 1951), and Karol Ann Maxwell, a half-sister (born 1938), who both died in 2014. She was a student at the St Mary’s School, Wantage.

In 1976, she attended the Montreal Games for her first Olympics. After her horse, Be Fair, injured on the course, she was forced to withdraw from the cross-country event. The 1980 Summer Olympics boycott saw the British Equestrian Team take part. Green represented Great Britain at Fontainebleau’s alternative Olympics. She was ranked 69th after the dressage and rose to 7th after the cross country ride on Village Gossip.

Green married Australian equestrian David Green in 1981 in Salisbury and they have a son Freddie (born May 1985) and daughter Lissa (born February 1989), who is an international event rider. The couple divorced in 1992. Her niece is Lara Prior-Palmer, the first woman to win the Mongol Derby.

In 1982, she went on to represent Britain at the Eventing World Championships in Luhmühlen, where she won the individual gold medal on Regal Realm, as well as being part of the gold medal winning team. She was part of the silver medal winning British Team at the 1983 European Eventing Championships in Switzerland, where she also won an individual silver medal.

Green started riding at four years old. She is best known for winning six consecutive Badminton Horse Trials on six horses: George (1977), Wideawake (1976), George (77), Killaire (1979), Regal Realm(833) and Beagle Bay (1984). She was also second on Village Gossip (1978). She also won the Tony Collins Trophy for British eventers, which is awarded to the rider who has the most points in an eventing season. This was a record seven times.

Lucinda Jane Green MBE (nee Prior Palmer, born 7/11/533) is a British equestrian who also competed in eventing. She was the 1982 World Champion, twice European Champion (1975-1977), and is currently the World Champion. She was also the 1982 World Champion and twice European Champion (1975-77).
