He is currently a Chinese footballer and plays as a defender in Dalian Yifang’s Chinese Super League.

Li, Zhao Xuri and Rong Hao were all transferred to Guangzhou Evergrande in December 2011. On 11 May 2012, he made his debut in the club’s first team against Dalian Shide. Li was not able to make a name for himself in the first team, so he played mostly in the reserve league. In the 2012 league season, Li made only one league appearance for Guangzhou.

On 4 December 2014, Li joined fellow Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on a permanent transfer after failing to cement a starting role at Guangzhou Evergrande. On 8 March 2015, he made his debut for the club in a 6-2 win against Shanghai Shenxin. He scored his first goal for Shanghai on 3 July 2016, in a 3-0 victory against Changchun Yatai.

On 13 February 2019, Li transferred to Dalian Yifang.

Li was selected to the Chinese under-23 team for the 2010 Asian Games. He would play in three games and scored one goal. China lost in the final sixteen. After a successful league season in which Li established himself and was promoted to Chengdu Blades’, Li would soon be called up for the Chinese preliminary team of the national team. This was in preparation for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Despite not having any previous international experience, and having previously played for a second-tier side, Li was unintentionally included in the squad. He would make his official international debut against Iraq on January 2, 2011, which China won 3-2.

Li Jianbin began his football career in Qingdao Beilaite’s youth academy in

2001. His athleticism would soon attract the attention of Shanghai Stars, a second-tier side. He was not able to break into the first team so he decided to play for Qingdao Hailifeng, a second-tier side.

Li joined Chengdu Blades’ second-tier side in May 2007. He would soon be sent to Sheffield United’s satellite club Hong Kong First Division League side Sheffield United, where he played five matches and scored one goal. After his loan period ended, Chengdu was a top-tier side. Li made his debut for the club in a league match against Shandong Luneng on 5 July 2009. Wang Baoshan, then the manager, would have a lot faith in Li and allow him to play in nine more league matches at the conclusion of the season. After it was revealed that the club had match-fixed many games in 2007, the club was relegated to second tier. Li decided to stay loyal to the club and to focus on becoming a key member of the team. This was achieved by his participation in 22 league games. He helped the club reach second place within the league and then to immediate promotion to the Chinese Super League.

On 20 November 2012, Li was loaned to Shanghai Shenhua for the 2013 league season as part of an agreement for Feng Renliang’s transfer to Guangzhou Evergrande with an option to buy at the end of the season. He returned to Guangzhou Evergrande in the beginning of 2014 season and played as a starter in the 2014 Chinese FA Super Cup. However, after Guangzhou losing the match, he had a conflict with fans in the social networks and was sent to the reserve team. On 25 June 2014, Li was loaned to promoted side Henan Jianye for the rest of the 2014 season. He made his debut for the club on 20 July 2014 in a 2-1 win against Beijing Guoan.
