Lauren Anne English (born April 22nd 1989) is an American swimmer who competed for her country in United States at the Pan Pacific Championships (2006), the World University Games (2007) and the Junior Pan Pacific Games (2005). English is born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey and lives in Lincoln Park, New Jersey. She established records in the United States Open Record in the 50 Meter Backstroke. She competed in collegiate swimming at The University of Georgia. After her retirement from high levels of swimming, she enrolled in New York University and is now a certified neurology nurse in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

The University of Georgia she swam on their nationally ranked swimming team under the direction of coach Jack Bauerle. In her freshman year, even though she made it to the finals of the SEC Championships, made the all-freshman SEC team for two of the events as well as making NCAA cuts, she slogged through throughout the year under an injury to her shoulder that was severe and was not able to take part in the NCAA’s. But, because of her athletic and academic achievements, she was selected as the Academic All American. She did not play in her sophomore year due to rehabilitation after an operation to repair an injury to her shoulder. She was on the University of Georgia team which took home the SEC Championships in 2010 and that finished runners in the NCAA Championships, her junior year. She was captain of the team from 2011 to 2012.

Growing within Montville, New Jersey, she was a student at Montville Township High School and was the state champion four times in the 100-yard Backstroke where she holds the record for the state. She was also a state champion, and held the New Jersey record in the 50 yard freestyle. She holds the 100-meter (short distance) backstroke, which is the national public record at high school. English was named New Jersey’s top swimmer of the year twice, and was named the high school swimming star by National High School Coaches Association in 2007. She was an eight-time High School All American and an several Academic All American. Along with swimming for the team she was on she was also a member of The Cougar Aquatic Club.

English finished ninth at the 2004 Olympic Trials in the 100 Backstroke race at age 15. In 2005, she earned the Silver during the U.S. Open. In 2006, she took home the Bronze during the Spring Championships and got a Silver in the 100 Backstroke event at the Summer Nationals. The record was broken by her breaking record US Open Record for the 50 Backstroke in 2007 at the Toyota Grand Prix at the University of Missouri, winning the Gold in the race. She has record for the YMCA long course record of 50 backstroke her set back in 2004. In National events, she competed for the team of Cougar Aquatic Club of Montclair, New Jersey under Coach Kit Ashenfelter.

At the turn of the decade, she was named one of the ten most outstanding female high school athletes in New Jersey of the past ten years. In 2017 Lauren was inducted into the Montville High School Hall of Fame.
