Her mother, Giselle Scanlon, was born to Thomas Scanlon, an Irish American, and Zaida Grullón Gómez, a Dominican; Scanlon was also Miss Dominican Republic 1974 and is currently executive director of the Instituto Nacional de la Salud (Insalud).
