Kurakin joined forces together with the Czech Austrian skater Barbora Silna back in 2010. The pair decided to represent Austria. In the 2010-11 season they were guided by Dmitri Sildoja and Vitali Schulz in Dortmund and Vienna. The following year, after working in the direction of Muriel Zazoui, and Romain Haguenauer at Lyon and Graz They won their very first Austrian national championship. The following two seasons they were second only to Kira Geil / Tobias Eisenbauer at the Austrian Championships. In 2013-14 the team switched to Barbara Fusar -Poli in Milan.

Stefano Caruso joined Fusar-Poli as the duo’s coach in the 2015–16 season. Silná/Kurakin reached the final segment at the 2016 Europeans in Bratislava and at the 2016 Worlds in Boston, where they placed 17th and 20th, respectively. They announced their retirement on 3 August 2016 due to Silná’s back problems.

In the year 2005 Kurakin was skating for Ina Demireva, who was a representative of Bulgaria. Initially being coached by Oksana Potdykova, the pair made the decision to train with Svetlana Alexeeva, and Elena Kustarova in Moscow in the seasons 2006-07 and 2007-08. They changed coaches their coaches to Oleg Volkov, and Alexander Zhulin for their final season in 2008-09.

Juri Kurakin (born 3 August 1987) was a former competitive Ice dancer, best known for his association with Barbora Silna in Austria. Together, they have won three Austrian national titles, and also reached the final section in the three ISU Championships. Prior to his professional career Kurakin was a player with Estonia in addition to Bulgaria.
