Judy Mowatt is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on November 11, 1952 in Gordon Town, Jamaica, Saint Andrew Parish, Jamaica. Judith Veronica Mowatt, OD (born 1952) is a Jamaican reggae musician. Apart from performing as a single artist since 1974 she also was a member of I Three (wrongly spelled “I Threes”) three-piece of backing vocalists of Bob Marley & The Wailers following the departure of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer had left.

She released her Black Woman album (Ashandan, 1979) came out in the following year, the same as I Three member Marcia Griffiths’s album, At Studio One. The album is regarded by many reviewers to be the most influential reggae album recorded by female artists. It also was the first album of reggae recorded by a woman who was the producer herself.

Formerly a member of the Rastafari movement, in the late 1990s she converted to Christianity and now sings Gospel music.

In 1999 the Jamaican government made her an Officer of the Order of Distinction for “services to music”.

The year 1974 was when she received her first big break when she joined Bob Marley’s back vocal group The “I Threes”.

Mowatt is a native of Gordon Town, St. Andrew Parish, Jamaica. When she was 13 years old, she was an active member of a dance company that traveled to Jamaica as well as other islands in the Caribbean. Her first goal was to become an registered nurse. Her early music influences included Aretha Franklin Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Dionne Warwick, Bob Marley, Marcia Griffiths, The Staple Singers and The Soulettes. An unintentional meeting with two teenagers who were part of her dance group led to the creation of the Gaylettes in the year 1967.

Mowatt was the longtime wife of Bunny Livingston/Wailer. some of the songs that he recorded in the beginning of the 1970s are creditable to her (though it is generally believed as a method to assist her, just as Bob Marley’s credits of the songs of Rita Marley or Vincent Ford). At the time, for the legal reason, she took the name Juliann as well as Jean Watt. On the Wailers Album Burnin’ (1973), two songs composed by their vocalist Bunny Wailer were credited to Judy Mowatt under the pseudonym Jean Watt: “Hallelujah Time” and “Pass It On”. Additionally there was”Pass It On” was the”B” Side from Concrete Jungle, “Reincarnated Soul” is as well as credited to Jean Watt and sung by Bunny Wailer. This track – with its name changing in the form of “Reincarnated Souls” – was added two years later on Bunny’s debut solo album Blackheart Man (1976).
