He has also collaborated in collaboration with IRCAM in the capacity of a speaker at workshops and as the coordinator for composition for their four- week summer course. In addition to his pedagogical and compositional tasks, he’s collaborated with music psychologists and computer scientists to develop software for computer-aided composition as well as in research on music perception. He has performed with ensembles as the artistic director for recordings of a variety of European ensembles and soloists and in the 1999-2000 season, he was the director of the orchestras Speculum Musicae and the Columbia Sinfonietta. Fineberg was the editor of two editions of The Contemporary Music Review on “Spectral Music” (Vol. 19 pt. 2 & 3). Between 2003 and 2009, he was his US Editor of Contemporary Music Review.

The year 1992 saw his composition for a large orchestra “ORIGINS” was selected by the international jury of the Gaudeamus foundation as a finalist in the Gaudeamus International Composers Award . It was performed in The Radio Symfonie Orkest of the N.O.S. in the course of 1992’s Gaudeamus Music Week.

He has collaborated with many prominent composers from both the United States and France, such as: George Crumb, Jacob Druckman, Robert Hall Lewis, Philippe Manoury, and Andre Boucourechliev. The year 1991 was the time he relocating to Paris and began studying alongside Tristan Murail. The following year , he was chosen for the Ensemble InterContemporain reading panel for the composition class and musical technology. The fall of 1997 his return back to his home in the US to pursue the doctorate in musical composition from Columbia University, which he completed in May 1999. After being a professor in Columbia for a year he moved into Harvard University where he served as the John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Humanities through 2007. In 2007, he joined staff at the Boston University School of Music and was appointed director of their studio for electronic music. He joined the Boston University School of Music in 2012. was the director of the Boston University Center for New Music.

A monographic CD of his music recorded by the Ensemble Court-Circuit was released in 2002 as a part of Unviersal France’s Accord/Una Corda collection, another CD recorded by the Ensemble FA was released by Mode Records in June 2009 and in 2012 a CD with his complete works for Piano, performed by Marilyn Nonken, was released by Divine Art/Métier. “Sonic Fictions” new CD of his works was released in 2018, also by Divine Art/Métier. Major projects include an ‘imaginary opera’ based on Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita for actor, dancers, video, ensemble and electronics realized in collaboration with JOJI; Speaking in Tongues, a concerto written for Les Percussions de Strasbourg’s 50th anniversary tour, Objets trouvé written for the ensemble Court-circuit and La Quintina for string quartet and electronics written for the Arditti Quartet and premiered at the Ultraschall festival in Berlin that marked the first co- realization between the ExperimentalStudio in Freiburg and IRCAM in Paris. In June 2017, Chicago’s Dal Niente Ensemble and Mocrep premiered his take my hand…, an evening-length immersive musical theater that explores ecstatic states.
