Joshua Hennessy (born February 7 in 1985) was an American professional hockey player. He is currently a free agent. He was most recently a player in the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL). Hennessy earlier played with the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins.

Hennessy has been sold (along with Tom Pricessing) for Tom Pricesing Ottawa Senators through their Chicago Blackhawks on July 9 of 2006, as part of an agreement that was three-way; Ottawa traded Bryan Smolinski and Martin Havlat to Chicago, which in turn, also sent Mark Bell to San Jose and sent Michal Barinka and a second round draft selection for 2008 Ottawa.

On May 6, 2010, Hennessy left the Senators organization after four years, signing a one-year deal with Swiss club HC Lugano.

On July 5, 2011, Hennessy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins. He was assigned to their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, for the majority of the 2011–12 season. In 67 games, he contributed offensively with 41 points before he was recalled to appear in three scoreless games with the Bruins.

Hennessy started his career as a professional in his San Jose Sharks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate The Cleveland Barons, in 2005-06. He was the team’s top scorer for in scoring for the Barons by scoring assists (29), goals (24) and assist (39) with an average of 63 points across 80 games. He was one of just two players who played in every regular season game. Hennessy has the team’s record for points and goals during a season played by an rookie. He was also awarded The Barons Player of the Year in the 2005-06 season.

In his youth, Hennessy played in the 1999 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as part of his Boston Junior Eagles minor ice hockey team.

Hennessy was selected 17th overall in the year 2001 in the Quebec Remparts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft. He completed his 2001-02 QMJHL campaign with 40 points, which was good for sixth place for the team. He didn’t speak French when he first arrived but he later learned to speak French and was captain of the team. Hennessy participated during the 2003 Memorial Cup, but Quebec was eliminated in the post round-robin tournament , losing the entire tournament. He was then picked to The San Jose Sharks 43rd overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was presented with the Karcher Plaque for one of the QMJHL Humanitarian of the Year in 2004. In the 2004-2005 QMJHL year, Hennessey led the team in scoring.

Hennessy then spent the majority of 2006–07 season with the Senators’ AHLs affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. During the season on his second call up to Ottawa, Hennessy scored his first NHL goal on January 7, 2007, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
