On the 14th of October on the 14th of October, 2007 Harding was able to stop 37 attempts in the opening match of the year, and shut-out opponents the Anaheim Ducks 2-0. Harding posted a record of 11-15 during the 2007-08 NHL season, registering the following statistics: 2.94 GAA. He was less active in the 2008-09 NHL season, finishing 3-11, however he posted a better 2.21 GAA.
On September 24, 2010, Harding tore the Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee in a pre-season game away against the St. Louis Blues that forced him to miss the entire 2010–11 season. Despite this, on July 1, 2011, Harding signed a one-year contract extension with the Wild.
Harding was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November 2012 while training during the 2012–13 NHL lockout. Harding lives in Edina with his wife Sara and their two children. Through his marriage, Harding has a stepson.
Harding was promoted in the Wild on March 8, 2006 following the fact that the goalie Dwayne Roloson was transferred with the Edmonton Oilers. Prior to his call-up, Harding had a 27-8-0 record and an .923 percent save rate (second highest for the AHL) during the Aeros in the 2005-06 season. He ended the season with a record of 29-8-0 with the Aeros. He was in three games for the Wild in 2005-06, finishing 2-1 with an 2.59 GAA.

Harding was a junior player for three years playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) along with the Regina Pats and Brandon Wheat Kings. He took home the Del Wilson and Four Broncos Memorial Trophies in 2003, as the top goalie in the WHL and the most outstanding player, respectively. He was a representative of Canada in the 2004 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships where he won the silver medal. He was picked as the 38th pick in the 2nd round in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Wild. He started playing professionally playing for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL), the Wild’s premier minor league team. In the 2004-05 season his first campaign with the Aeros He posted an overall record of 21-16-3 and an average of 2.01 goal- against average (GAA).
Harding was a debut international player at Junior level of Canada during the year 2004 at World Juniors, helping claim an Olympic silver medal. Following the end of the 2008-09 season Harding was chosen to make his senior debut for his Canada senior team in the 2009 IIHF World Championship. Harding helped lead the Canadians to win an Olympic silver medal.
Harding began the 2006–07 season with the Aeros, compiling a 17–15–4 record before being recalled by the Wild on January 24, 2007. Harding recorded a 30-save, 5–0 shutout against the Oilers on March 1, 2007, the third shutout of his career.
