John Porcellino (born September 18 1968 from Chicago, Illinois) is an established creator of comics in the form of minicomics. Porcellino’s self published, photocopied, mostly autobiographical collection King-Cat Comics is among the most popular and longest-running minicomics published in the present. Porcellino developed King-Cat in May 1989 and has published to date more than 77 issues.

On September 2, 2002 Porcellino was married to Misun Oh who he discovered through the King-Cat’s letter column. The couple later returned to Denver partially so Misun could complete the studies she had taken in Traditional Chinese medical practices.

Porcellino resided in Denver, Colorado, from 1992 to 1998. He adopted one of his cats Maisie Kukoc in the month of March in 1992 (the cat passed away after 2007). He was married to his long-time “sweetheart” Kera in September 1996 in Elgin, Illinois. The couple honeymooned on the beach in Tucson, Arizona. In the meantime Porcellino was suffering from hyperacusis over the past few years and was looking into holistic options for healing which included meditation, yoga and the study of Zen Buddhism.

In 1997, Porcellino was suffering from intense abdominal pain, which eventually resulted in the removal benign tumors in his small intestinal. After having lived for six years in Denver over the course of six years at the beginning of 1998, Porcellino and Kera relocated back to their homeland of Illinois and then back in Hoffman Estates and then to Kera’s parents’ residence in Elgin. After two years off the workforce Porcellino landed a job in a health food store. In the summer and spring of 1998, Porcellino was again suffering from an acute illness, which was likely caused by exposure to pesticides resulting due to his work as a mosquito control worker. The consultation with an environmental medicine expert assisted, and over the rest of 1998 , his health improved until the doctor diagnosed him with obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD).

In recent years other publishers have been publishing collections of his work, including the graphic novel Perfect Example, chronicling his teenage struggles with depression. La Mano, Zak Sally’s publishing venture, released Porcellino’s Diary of a Mosquito Abatement Man, collecting various King-Cat stories about Porcellino’s experiences as a pest control worker. The book won an Ignatz Award at the 2005 Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland.
