Luzinski was selected to be a National League (NL) All-Star every year between 1975 and 1978, highlighted by the home run he hit off Jim Palmer in 1977’s All-Star Game. In 1978, Luzinski was the top NL All- Star vote-getter. He was also the Senior Circuit’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) runner-up in 1975, when he led the National League in RBIs with 120; and in 1977, when he posted career highs in batting average (.309), home runs (39), and RBIs (130).
