Johan Erik Daniel Holmqvist (born on May 24 1978) is a Swedish professional goalie for ice hockey, He was a prominent player for the National Hockey League and the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
They were with him for two seasons before on June 1st of 2006, he was joined Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay Lightning, an NHL club. The club he played for nearly two years with mixed results. He was traded just before the trade deadline in 2008 with the Dallas Stars along with Brad Richards in exchange for Mike Smith, Jeff Halpern and Jussi Jokinen. Holmqvist has played for Sweden during both World Championships, 2005 and in 2006. He was Sweden’s first goalie in 2006 and led Sweden into their very first Gold medal at the World Championship since 1998, and was later selected as the tournament’s top goalie.

He began his career with his home club, the Elitserien club Brynas IF. He was part of the team’s senior squad from 1996 until 2000, and won the Swedish title in the year 1999. Then, he joined the New York Rangers, who had taken Holmqvist during the year 1997 in NHL Entry Draft (7th round/175 selection overall). Holmqvist played in four NHL matches with the Rangers between 2000 between 2000 and 2003. The majority part of the time he played playing with the Rangers Farm squad Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL.
On the 11th of March in 2003 Holmqvist became the subject of a trade for the Minnesota Wild for Lawrence Nycholat. Holmqvist was a part of the season on Minnesota Wild’s team farm that of the Houston Aeros in the AHL and was awarded the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the MVP during the Calder Cup Playoffs as Houston took home the league championship. The following season, 2003/04 Holmqvist played for the Aeros. In the final stages of his season, he made the decision to go back to Sweden and signed with his old club, Brynas IF.
